Messy Mondays at Night: The Live I almost canceled because I was about to crash out!

ICE Raids, TONY Awards, Protecting Trans Women, A Bug's Life, and The Power of Why?!

Well hello there friends!

Today felt especially heavy for me, and I was very close to canceling our livestream since it was just going to be a solo night anyway. But then I thought perhaps our heauxmmunity was also feeling heavy, and could use a little time together. What is happening in Los Angeles, our country, and the world at large is enraging and heartbreaking. As I share in the video, I have a hard time talking about some of these things because the injustices feel so blatant, that I don’t know how to talk about them without crashing out. But talking about it, and reading your comments made me feel less crazy. It also led into a conversation about one of my fave movies, A Bug’s Life! Cartoons be preaching!

We also got into a little TONY Recap. Please, if you haven’t, check out Audra McDonald’s earth shattering performance!

I was being sent a clip of TS Madison on Nene Leakes’ show, and wanted to breakdown the transphobia, because it is exhausting to watch my trans siblings have to do it constantly—and across from folx who are supposed to be allies of the community!

I ended the convo with a recap of an essay I dropped this morning, about The Power of Why? inspired by my convo with Lena Waithe. I think that Why? is a key to our true liberation and freedom.

Finally, I love you so much, and I know things out here are heartbreaking, scary, exhausting, and so much more, but we are in community and we have each other. Our activism is dependent upon holding one another up. Rest when you need to. Find joy often. And remember you’re not fighting alone.

I leave you with one of my favorite quotes, if people can hate for no reason, certainly I can love.

See you next week!
