Another fabulous Messy Mondays at Night in the can! (Is that the expression?!) Couldn’t be more excited to spend the evening with
! Truly I had planned to talk about sex tips and non-monogamy but our flow found a different path. We discussed the importance of rest, and I recommended the book Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hearsy, which completely changed my relationship to it. Like Zach, I’m still not great at rest, but that book definitely made me want to be.Zach and I also waded into the imperfect waters of how to navigate fighting that happens inside of a community over major topics—the example we tackled was pride. Should pride be a celebration or a protest?
What was especially exciting to talk to Zach about was our battle with perfectionism. I often call myself a recovering perfectionist, and it was validating to talk to someone (particularly another writer/artist) about the struggle to let ourselves off the hook.
Of course I couldn’t talk to the author of BOYSLUT and Grindr’s Sex and Relationship expert without talking at least a little bit about sex! Specifically we talked about taking better dick pics. The sparknotes are, please moisturize before you take the pic!
This was one of the most nourishing conversations and the perfect way to kick off Pride month. I hope something we discussed makes you feel seen, heard, loved, and less alone on your own journey.
Some other things I mentioned during our chat, was my recent post on how to start a gratitude journal, and learning that what you say NO to is more important than your YES.
Also, idk what was going on with my internet connection, but we got through!
